Helping you to understand, process, and work through your emotions, both individually and as a couple.
Your emotions aren't the problem. They're messengers pointing to what's actually important to you.
EFT for Couples

An attachment-based approach that looks at the pattern a couple gets stuck in, rather than treating either partner as the problem.
What it can help with:
The same fight happening on repeat, even when it's technically about something different each time
One partner withdrawing and the other pursuing, in a cycle that keeps escalating
Feeling disconnected from a partner, even when the relationship itself isn't in crisis
How it works:
Couples often get stuck in a negative cycle, one partner criticizes or pursues, the other withdraws or shuts down, and the cycle reinforces itself. Underneath that cycle is usually a more vulnerable emotion, fear of not mattering, fear of being too much, fear of losing the relationship, that isn't getting expressed directly. This approach helps both partners access and share that vulnerable emotion with each other, aiming to rebuild a more secure emotional bond rather than just resolving the surface-level argument.
EFT for Individuals

An experiential approach that treats emotion as central to how people get stuck and how they change.
What it can help with:
Feeling disconnected from your own emotions, or only able to access anger when something softer is actually underneath
Getting stuck in the same emotional reaction over and over, without understanding where it's coming from
Difficulty processing grief, shame, or old hurt that talk-based insight hasn't fully resolved
Anxiety, depression, anger, unresolved emotions or past pain, emotional overwhelm and regulation, self-esteem, and grief
How it works:
Rather than treating all emotion the same way, this model distinguishes between emotions that are giving you useful information (like grief that needs to be felt) and emotional reactions that are more habitual or protective (like anger that covers something more vulnerable underneath). Your therapist helps you access and work through the emotion directly in session, rather than just talking about it from a distance.

Frequently asked questions
What is emotionally focused therapy, and how does it help?
Emotionally focused therapy in Calgary helps you better understand your emotions and how they affect your thoughts and actions. Instead of ignoring feelings, this approach teaches you to work through them safely. Over time, it can help you feel more balanced, confident, and connected to yourself.
What happens during emotion-focused counselling?
During emotion-focused counselling, you talk openly about your feelings while your therapist guides you with care and support. The goal is to help you recognize emotional patterns and understand where they come from. You also learn how to respond to your emotions in healthier ways, rather than avoiding or suppressing them.
Who can benefit from emotion-focused counselling in Calgary?
Emotion-focused counselling in Calgary can help anyone who feels overwhelmed by emotions, struggles with self-esteem or low mood, or has difficulty expressing feelings. It is also helpful if you feel stuck in the same emotional patterns. Therapy can help you process those feelings and build stronger emotional awareness.
How do I know if emotion-focused therapy is right for me?
If you are searching for “emotion-focused therapy near me,” you may be ready to better understand your emotions and improve your well-being. This approach is a good fit if you want to feel more attuned to your feelings, explore what they may be telling you, and develop healthier coping strategies.
